Water bills rise when measured consumption rises. Pool filling, irrigation, extra people in the home, construction or pressure washing, and continuous leaks all show up the same way on a meter. The 2026 Greenville Water rate change itself adds approximately $0.79 per month for a household using 3,000 gallons. A much larger sudden increase is therefore unlikely to be explained by the standard 2026 Greenville Water rate change alone.
Greenville Water says a longer test, such as overnight, may help identify slow or intermittent leaks. Toilets are a common silent source: add a few drops of food coloring to the tank without flushing and wait at least one hour. If colored water appears in the bowl, the toilet is leaking.
Greenville Water maintains the public water line through the outlet side of the meter. The water line leaving the meter is the customer's service line and is the customer's responsibility to maintain.
